Engine problems on a few of British Airways’ Dreamliners have prompted the carrier to make what it calls “some minor adjustments” to its roster during the week. Due to inspections, BA has chosen to swap affected Dreamliners with an Airbus A340 leased from the low-cost European operator Air Belgium.
Technical issues with the Rolls-Royce engines on a handful of its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner craft have seen British Airways (BA) make what it calls “some minor adjustments” to its scheduled roster of flights during the early part of September.
In a notice on its website, Britain’s flag carrier explains, “Like other airlines around the world, we continue to carry out detailed precautionary inspections on Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines on some of our Boeing 787-9 aircraft to ensure we meet all the relevant regulatory safety requirements.”
This issue will impact only a small number of passengers, most namely those traveling on British Airways Flight 155 from London to Cairo between September 3 and September 5 and those traveling on British Airways Flight 154 from Cairo to London between September 4 and September 6.
In order to continue its operations, the carrier has also explained that it has “leased an additional long haul aircraft from Air Belgium.” The Daily Mail reports that the craft leased by British Airways from the budget Belgian carrier is an Airbus A340 well over ten years old.
BA has stated, “We continue to work in conjunction with Rolls-Royce to minimize any disruption caused by these extra engine inspections and are sorry for the inconvenience these flight schedule and aircraft changes may bring to some customers. The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority and we would never operate an aircraft if it was unsafe to do so.”
It also added, “No other aircraft or engine types within the British Airways fleet are involved in these extra engineering check requirements.”
